Monaco Exits FATF Grey List: A Turning Point for the Principality’s Financial Future

After two years of extensive reforms, Monaco has secured an important victory for its international reputation. The decision marks a significant achievement for the Princely Government and a new chapter for one of Europe’s most distinctive financial centres.

Monaco has reached a significant milestone in its financial history. On 30 October, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) announced the Principality’s removal from its grey list of jurisdictions under increased monitoring.

The decision, following the FATF plenary meeting in Paris, recognises two years of extensive reforms undertaken under the leadership of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the Princely Government.

For one of Europe’s most distinctive financial centres, the achievement represents more than regulatory progress. It is an important endorsement of Monaco’s commitment to transparency, institutional integrity and international confidence.

Reform That Delivers Results

Since 2024, Monaco has strengthened its anti-money-laundering framework, enhanced financial supervision and reinforced international cooperation.

Measures include tighter controls over financial transactions, greater transparency regarding beneficial ownership and stronger powers to investigate and confiscate criminal assets.

The Monaco Financial Security Authority (AMSF) has also expanded significantly, with staffing expected to reach 80 by the end of 2026.

These efforts culminated in international recognition of the Principality’s progress and its removal from increased monitoring.

A Victory for Monaco’s Government

The achievement reflects the determination of Monaco’s institutions and the coordinated efforts of regulators, public authorities and financial professionals.

Minister of State Christophe Mirmand has emphasised that maintaining the highest international standards remains a long-term government priority.

The Princely Government deserves congratulations for its decisive leadership and sustained commitment to reform. The outcome demonstrates Monaco’s ability to respond effectively to international challenges while safeguarding its position as a leading destination for global business and private wealth.

A Stronger Position on the World Stage

For international investors, private banks, family offices and entrepreneurs, the decision sends a positive signal.

Removal from the grey list strengthens Monaco’s international credibility and may facilitate financial relationships, although rigorous compliance and due-diligence requirements will remain in place.

The next challenge is to consolidate these achievements ahead of future MONEYVAL assessments and ensure that reforms deliver lasting results.

Monaco has long been associated with stability, security and exceptional quality of life. Today, it adds renewed regulatory credibility to those strengths.

The Principality has not simply regained international confidence. It has taken an important step towards securing its financial future.
