H.S.H. Prince Albert II Addresses the Future of AS Monaco Basket

H.S.H. Prince Albert II has addressed the situation surrounding AS Monaco Basket, calling for clarity, responsibility and a long-term vision as the club faces a period of uncertainty.

In a statement released by the Prince’s Palace on Friday, the Sovereign described the situation as a source of “deep disappointment,” while stressing that the priority now must be to allow the club to rebuild on solid foundations.

The Prince placed particular emphasis on preserving the community that has grown around AS Monaco Basket. Beyond the professional team, he pointed to the employees, young players, management, volunteers and supporters who have helped shape the club and Monaco’s wider basketball culture.

The future of the Roca Team, he suggested, is therefore about more than results on the court.

Over recent years, AS Monaco Basket has become one of the Principality’s most visible sporting ambassadors, with its European presence bringing Monaco to an increasingly international basketball audience. Prince Albert acknowledged that contribution, describing the team’s success and the enthusiasm surrounding it as important to Monaco’s profile abroad.

“Basketball has become a true showcase for Monaco.”

The Sovereign called for the club’s future to be built around stability, transparency and strong ties to the Principality, while expressing his support for the players, coaching staff, management, volunteers and supporters.

He also welcomed the support being provided to the club by the Monaco Government.

The message from the Palace is ultimately one of continuity: despite the difficulties facing AS Monaco Basket, its place within Monaco’s sporting landscape — and its role in representing the Principality internationally — is something worth preserving
